There are some things you need to look for when wanting to buy a new home. If you don’t take precautions they might cost you a tens of thousands of dollars. Obviously when before buying you want to make sure that the house has a solid foundation, no leakage on the roof and a good wiring, most of the time it’s all covered by inspection. But the thing you want to look for are some smaller things that in the end can have a big impact.
Checking out the neighborhood
This should be the first thing to do before making any rash decisions and moving into a new home. Try going from door to door and ask the people that live there are they happy, do they have problems with the other neighbors. Nobody wants to move into a N and have problematic neighbors. After that look around, is there any community parks for children, how far away is the school and what kind of transportation is available in that area.
Making sure that rooms are perfect for your needs
The first thing you notice when you walk into a new house is the size of the rooms. To make sure that you and your family can live comfortably in them the smartest thing to do is to bring a measuring tape and measure everything you need. The height and the width of every room and maybe try imagining how would it look with your own furniture. If some rooms feel small consider knocking down a wall if it is possible.
Pay attention to the lighting in the rooms. Is there enough natural light or you might need to install new windows. To be able to see the amount of natural light it is maybe better to visit the house at some different time of day. If that is the case and there is a low percent of natural light you are in trouble because windows can be very expensive.
